The Truth Will Set You Free...to Play Ridiculous Board Games

I'm still a little stunned from yesterday. I'm used to posting silly things about random supernatural creatures that also serve as alternate light sources, so that kind of honesty was a little scary. Would people want to read it? Did I come off sounding like a total Boo Boo Whinyhead? So I just wanted to say again that your comments really mean a lot to me. And hopefully, someone will read that post and all those comments and get something they need out of it.

So really, THANKS.

After a day like that, we had a pretty quiet night. Slayer and I played Trivial Pursuit, and I am embarrassed to admit that I MISSED A QUESTION ABOUT RICHARD SIMMONS (and about 700 about golf, but that's beside the question). We got a little punchy, as we inevitably do during TP. (It has the same abbreviation as toilet paper! Coincidence? Well...probably.) Slayer demonstrated how difficult it is to tell the difference between pink and orange after working for 12 hours straight. And I demonstrated that sometimes lawyers and basketball players are interchangeable.

It's all a part of that happy thing, our board game playing. What games are you into lately? We need a new one.

It's not a board game, but we got the Wii for the kids, and sometimes after they're asleep, we have monster sport smack-downs. I have yet to beat my hubby at figure skating. :)

I would like to clarify that when Carrie says "punchy" she means "silly" not "violent". :)

We reserve the violence for evil people (or evil supernatural creatures) who need to be stopped.

I have to admit I hate games unless they are math related. ie: puzzles, or things like Blokus (my fave) or the granny loving Backgammon. Ew. I should probably delete this comment as it is evidence of my non-gamey-fun-ness.

we played Family TP the other night (yes, trivial pursuit; no, not toilet paper).

Let's just say it started out with both sons requesting to be on my husband's team and went downhill from there.

*apparently* I am not very good at geography. Or history. Or sports. Or leisure for that matter. Or, um, the pink thing. Or the brown category which we shall not admit is literature.

Oddly, I rock at science and nature.

That's so fun that you and hubs play Trivial Pursuit in the evening. I haven't played in so long. MY hubby and I do get majorly competitive though. We used to play "You Don't Know Jack" all the time. But now we do know Jack well, we have a son named Jack.
We've been playing Go Fish a lot lately with the kids though.
And how could you get a Richard Simmons question wrong?????!

HOLD THE PHONE! I'm not sure I can even talk to you knowing you missed a Richard Simmons question. I'm disappointed. Ashamed. I thought you were his #1 fan. How do you think he'd feel.

Don't worry I heart you anyway... for now.

Please get Quelf. It is THE FUNNIEST board game you will ever play. It's a bit like Cranium but with everything random like "Don't speak to anyone and get up to go to the bathroom. Don't come out until someone comes to get you". Plus you get to be Super Ninja Monkey and really, what's better than that? My friends, husband and I all love to play that game.

I'm not a great trivial pursuit player unless it's geared toward a particular topic I know. Wish they had one for YA Fiction.

...But I do know what 'punchy' means.

Ah, board games. A favorite Kirk family pastime. I could go on with quite the list but...
Sequence, Sorry, ImaginIff, Uno, Othello, Buzz Word, Letter Flip,Backgammon, and the electronic version of Catch Phrase (okay technically not a board game so much fun especially with big groups).

AJ's Quelf sounds fun. I'll have to check it out.

Yikes, I went on a bit, but your fault for mentioning board games.

We like TP (hopefully a coincidence), but our family fav board game is Lord of the Rings Risk.

Thank you for the post on The Mockingbirds. I'm passing the link on. I'm also sorry that I only just found your blog, it is a fun place to be. : )

Quelf is perfect for punchy board game players. Besides, you'll laugh a lot.

Set!
This is my OBSESSION, Carrie. I mean OBSESSION and no one ever wants to play with me.

Another game no one wants to play with me is Rocketville, which you would adore.

Might be a little hard for the younger kids....but but but...you'd love it.

(Also, the word verification today is zombast. REALLY).

Kristi, we play Wii Cheer 2 at my house. Sometimes after the kids go to bed. ;)

*starts scribbling down game ideas" Keep 'em coming, people!

Oh, and Jennifer? WELCOME! You haven't missed much. My last 500 posts can be pretty much boiled down to: SPARKLY VAMPIRES, RICHARD SIMMONS, THE HOFF, MUTANT WOMBATS--BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

YOU missed a question about Richard Simmons??!! *GASP*

I love playing board games with my kiddos. Our favorites: Apples to Apples, Sorry, and Dad's favorite = Risk. For the record, I HATE the game of Risk. :-)

I love trivial pursuit! We love to play Apples to Apples with a big group of people- that's always a fun easy game. I always love cranium too. But right now our gameplaying is mostly, Candyland, Disney Bingo, Diego Memory, Sequence for kids, and every other game a 5 year old can play.

We just played a new version of TP called 'Eye Know' - VERY Fun. Planning to take it to a margarita party tonight. THAT always makes it interesting. ;-) Usually we play men v. women, but now that all of our kids our teenagers it's going to be men v. women v. kids. I'm afraid. Very afraid.

Quack! That second 'our' should be 'are' - not a promising start to the day...

We play Clue, which I always win.

We play Trivial Pursuit Harry Potter edition (and sometimes let my husband win because he trys so hard and really...it's just sad)

Never play Taboo. It's all fun until someone freaks out because you keep buzzing them.

We play Disc Golf on the PS3 a lot when the kids go to bed. I really suck at it :)

I am totally going to try to find Quwlf now. Sounds like a blast.
