Things That Make Me Snarf - Do You Want to Date My Avatar?

I owe a shout of gratitude to Fabulous Agent Kate for bringing up The Guild to me in conversation. How is it that I haven't posted this yet?

Bad Carrie. No biscuit.

These are my people. Seriously, I can sometimes get a little shy in public, particularly if I'm in a room full of people who are into things like sports. I'm one of those people who prays for a green question about food or ice skating when I'm playing Trivial Pursuit. I do not do the sport thing, or rather, I enjoy watching sports in person. I admire athletes for their dedication and skill. But I that's as far as it goes. A conversation about sports with me goes something like this:

Sporty person at party: Dude! Did you see Muscley Muscleman make that play last night? He's freaking fast!

Me: Like, Flash fast? Like, do his legs go all blurry when he runs? Because I've always wanted to see that in real life.

Sporty person at party: Um... whatever. And he's got such endurance!

Me: Like, he could outrun a thousand zombies? Because really, that's my benchmark as far as the whole endurance thing goes. If you can't outrun a thousand zombies, I'm not impressed.

Sporty person at party: Oh, wow. There's my... uh... best friend over there. I need to go talk to him. Right now.

But if you put me in a room full of gamer geeks? Suddenly, I turn into the life of the party. I am kewl, in geek speak. Which is about the biggest oxymoron in the world. Because really? We geeks are the kewl ones. We just allow the rest of you your delusions.

  2. One of our family stories is of a Trivial Pursuit game with my mom, who is equally uninterested in sports. She got a question that started, "Which horse--?"; I wasn't there, but apparently my granddad started laughing so hard he couldn't finish the game, much less the question.

  3. I forgive you for not posting this video sooner because it was flippin' snarftastic.

  4. I love this video. I feel kind of bad for not somehow mentioning it earlier for your posting purposes...

Please tell me you've also seen Dr. Horrible. I mean, I assume that you have, but I have to double-check. Just in case.

  5. I do like watching sports live but I don't like discussing them.
    That video is pretty funny!

  6. Wow! I totally forgot how snarftastic The Guild is. Disney Trivial Pursuit is the game to play. :)

  8. You didn't know about The Guild? I feel ashamed that I didn't tell you sooner! It's genius, huh.

I feel the same way about conversations.

    And about geeks/nerds.

  10. Oh, I've been watching The Guild for a while. What I don't understand is why on earth I didn't say, "Oh, I must share this awesomeness on my blog!"

Answer: Because I am apparently stupid.

And yes, Dr. Horrible is AWESOME. The only reason I haven't linked that is because I assume that everyone has seen it.

    Yeah, I'm talking to YOU.

  11. Okay, let me start by saying things I love more than anything ever about this video:

Kara table=awesomeness. Complete with stuffed pig. It makes me miss kara in a way that I never thought possible. Seriously, I want to log on and summon Nightbane right now.

How about a little tank and spank? Migosh... could that be funnier? Yeah I don't think so.

Let's talk about the awesomeness that is the costumes... perfection.

I will admit to, on occasion blasting this one through the itunes and jamming with the daughter.

  12. LOL Where can I get my hands on one of those costumes. Halloween is just around the corner. :)

  14. Love that! I can relate. I may be one of the biggest gamer geeks ever. But sports? HA!

    The video was totally snarftastic.

  15. I ADORE The Guild. My husband and I recently watched all three seasons and I am addicted...I follow them on Twitter and I can't wait till more comes out. I'm not even a gamer...but who cares. The show is fantastic.

    You Rock Carrie!

  16. Love it!

I'm the opposite.. Sports very comfortable. Everything else except hanging out with hilarious writer friends - not so much. :)

  17. I would be the same way about the sports questions. I don't ever watch games on TV and when we have gone to a game (I've been to a few Dodger games) I was more interested in what food I could eat, lol.

  18. Yeah, I'm right there with you as far as sports goes, but I'm not a gamer either. Put me in a room full of tweens and teens obsessed with Gossip Girl and The Hills? Now that's my crowd.

    Sincerely,
    Lisa (Who's planning on maturing...eventually)

  20. ...I suppose it wouldn't surprise you to find out that I have seen every single "The Guild" video ever.

    I thought not.
