Figuring Out the Next Steps

I have a confession to make--I get jittery when I'm not working on a book. I got into writing because it does lots of good things for me. It gives me an outlet for all the weirdness floating around in my head, and people don't usually look at me funny. It helps me relax. And when people say, "What are you working on?" I have an answer. Usually a long winded one that makes their eyes glaze over, but it's still an answer.

But this week, I've had so much going on that I haven't written a thing.

Well, not true. I've written blogs. I've written about 700 emails. I've written some web copy for the Class of 2k11 launch, which is TOMORROW! (Don't forget! TOMORROW! There will be FREE THINGS.) But no book.

So today, my goal is to write some fiction, in between cleaning this cesspool of a house and taking care of my poor flu-ridden child. Just a paragraph, universe. That's all I want. Just a paragraph.

Any other compulsive daily writers out there, or are the rest of you normal compared to me? Something tells me I know the answer to this. :)

A paragraph is a good goal. I would love to write a sentence:)

I'm in that same exact spot this week. I'm turning my newly finished ms over to my crit partners, and it feels strange when I complete something. There's this mad adrenaline rush that pushes me until I get to the end, and then the 'what now?' feeling takes over. I really don't want to start cleaning today, so I'm going to have to find something to write! :)

I'm the same. I love the outlet writing gives me so, when I'm not, I feel like I've lost a limb. I hardly wrote at all last week so I'm wanting to make up for it this week.

hi miss carrie! you got some pretty good reasons for not getting lots of writing done. so dont get mad at youself. having that goal for just one paragraph is a really good idea. i bet when you get that one done youre just gonna keep writing and get a surprise on how much you get done.

With my kids getting older, it has been harder to find daily writing time. It's getting hard to figure out how to write consistently. Currently, I've found 3 mornings a week that I've been able to devote to writing/blogging.

good luck!

I get kind of ancy when I don't write, unless I'm off on some adventure. Happy writing!!!

I bet if you are able to find a way to sit down and work for a bit, you'll get more than just a paragraph done. =) And I'm liking that goal. Maybe if I set one I might actually reach on busy days, I'll feel a lot more accomplished. ;)

Normal. Though I've been good lately. Or better. After kids, house, food, schoolwork, when I sit down it's usually between 600-800 words, anything after that is icing on the cake.

Whenever I get hit with a wave of depression, I can usually trace it back to the fact that I haven't written in a week or so. It's actually pretty great to be able to self-diagnose like that. I save money that would otherwise go to therapy bills.

I'm with Candyland...some days not even a sentence is written on my laptop or in my notebook. 700 emails? wow! it's no wonder. Hope your child feels better soon. One of mine just got over that. It's not fun! christy

Clearly we need to get working on some new kind of monster mash. Start thinking!

I am neither a daily writer, nor normal compared to you :)
