Books! Challenges! Bad Poetry!

The Story Siren

I'm taking on the 2010 Debut Author Challenge, because I am kewl. The rules are so simple that even I can follow them: Read at least 12 books by debut authors in 2010. The best part? It's an excuse to get books.

I'm sorry in advance, Slayer.

It's going to be easy, though, because the debut awesomeness is plentiful. Here's what's on my list so far:
  • The Absolute Value of -1 by Steve Brezenoff
  • Tortilla Sun by Jennifer Cervantes
  • Wolves, Boys, and Other Things That Might Kill Me by Kristen Chandler
  • Nightshade by Andrea Cremer
  • Everlasting by Angie Frazier
  • Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins
  • Guardian of the Dead by Karen Healey
  • The Deathday Letter by Shaun Hutchinson
  • Harmonic Feedback by Tara Kelly
  • The DUFF by Kody Keplinger
  • Other by Karen Kincy
  • The Witch’s Alphabet by Caitlin Kittredge
  • Princess for Hire by Lindsey Leavitt
  • Anna and the Boy Masterpiece by Stephanie Perkins
  • Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Have I missed anything that you think is a must read?

In other news, I'm so far behind on haiku reviews that I've lost track entirely. But here are a few things that I've read lately that you might like if you're looking for something new and awesome:

Devil's Kiss by Sarwat Chadda
Add one girl Templar,
Fallen angels, cute boys,
And stir. Result? WOOT!

The Dreaming Volumes 1-3 by Queenie Chan
A quick read graphic
novel, bursting with cool
Australian myth

Scepter of the Ancients/Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy
I am now in love
with a sarcastic, gutsy
talking skeleton

Woo-hoo I'm so excited for this challenge, 2010 is going to be a great year for books. Thanks so much for including Nightshade on your uber kewl blog :)

I want to take the challenge! I would probably read these books anyways, but reading them for a "challenge" will make my parents less upset about the money I'll be spending :)

So I hear that Paranormalcy is AMAZING.

Just sayin'.

Also, just kidding. But thanks : ) I'm excited for you to read it again post-edits!

And Stephanie's book is FREAKING INCREDIBLE and you will love it and want to lick it. I know that sounds creepy, but you'll understand when you read it.

Yay thanks!

LOL Oh, sorry, that laugh out loud wasn't necessarily in response to this post (although this post was entertaining as well). I was just getting caught up on some of your other posts and they had me laughing. In particular the "Gossip Girl" one. Funny. Anyway, yes, I need to take this challenge. I think it sounds fun. And I always need more excuses to buy books. (I think my husband's getting tired of my go-to excuse of: I'm supporting my industry). :)

Well I'm for sure taking 1/5 of the challenge since I will be reading Stephanie and Kiersten's books the day they are released!

Oooh, I think I can do that challenge! I'll just use your list, if that's okay. :)

Tere Kirkland said...

Sounds like a challenge I'd gladly accept!

And I've been dying to read Devil's Kiss. Will have to pick that up next trip to the bookstore.

Love a good challenge, but with these books, you will have so much fun. Thanks so much for including TORTILLA SUN on your list. Make sure you aren't hungry when you read it or you may have to make a tortilla run :)

Love the haikus. And any excuse to buy more books is great in my book. ;o)

Let's hear it for all of us willing to tackle yet another reading challenge while trying to be writers - Wahooooo! Bring it on 2010! ;-)

I so love a challenge - especially one that gives me more excuses to read. I'll go by your list as I've been eagerly awaiting Paranormalcy anyway.

I like that list, and the challenge. I'm going to be reading some of the same ones :)

And Kiersten made me curious about Stephanie's book as I've never licked a book before :)

K.C. Shaw said...

I may take that challenge too. I want to do the Read 50 Books challenge again anyway, so that'll fold in very well.

And hey, more books!

PJ Hoover said...

So should I read Devil's Kiss? I've been on the edge.

Not sure about the debut challenge. I think I'll do the reading challenge again but set the mark at 75 books. I'm at 80 this year.

What a fantastic challenge. I think I may be up for this one.

Sara Raasch said...

That's my kind of challenge!

PS: I got a certain book from a certain someone in the mail today. It is very pretty. Thanks :D

Oh, I'm thrilled you're doing this Carrie! Thank you for putting Anna on your list. I'm so honored (and flattered).

And I'm looking forward to repaying the favor in 2011 ;)
