Slayer and I sent the kids to Grandma and Grandpa's this weekend and watched a movie. (We also may or may not have drank margaritas, but I'm not saying for sure.) We watched RED, which is that caper film about retired CIA agents starring Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, and Morgan Freeman. It had lots of explosions and snappy dialogue. In short, I loved it.
Over the weekend, one of my friends was complaining about having to watch "guy movies" all the time, but I'd be perfectly happy doing that. If it's a caper film, I'm there. If it's a movie in which monosyllabic action stars blow things up and then walk away in slo-mo (thereby proving that they are COOL), I'm there. If it's based on a video game, has no real plot to speak of, but looks cool, I am sadly still there. I think it's all about your expectations. I don't go into those movies thinking, "Yeah, I'm going to see some deep plot development and a profound story that will change the way I see the world." HECK TO THE NO! I go in thinking this is going to look COOL. I'm hoping the special effects team will blow me away. I'm hoping the stunt crew's going to rock the casbah.
Frankly, after the super sekrit thing I did a couple of weekends ago (which should be unveiled VERY SOON), I've decided that my other dream job would be in special effects. Speaking of that, have any of you been watching Face Off? It's one of those reality competition shows (I know, I know) for special fx guys. SO. BLEEPING. AWESOME.
Anyway. If you come to my house for movie night, you can fully expect to see monsters and explosions, or both. How about you?

Oh me too. I want to see a hot guy blowing stuff up. Usually that involves James Bond for me.
RED - Freaking AWESOME. Best line, Helen Mirren explaining what a Wet Works specialist is: "It mean I KILL people, Darling"
Can't wait for the special surprise, especially if it has things going BOOOM! in it.
[PS:New record. Took me three times to get this post right . . . I hate word verification]
Movies with real plots just give me a thinking headache :)
Love this! :)
*confession* I don't really enjoy movies all that much, but if I did, I think I'd prefer fairy tale-ish sorts. ;-)
omgosh! I love face off!
My favorite by far is conner and I LOVED the fairy tale ep and in a way can't wait till season two but I am happy fact or faked is back on
love face off
It depends on whose turn it was on Movie Night. Mine would be sci-fi horror. I likes a twisty plot and special effects.
My husband is all about the macho guy movies and thats ok with me most of the time. Except no more war movies. I put my foot down. They are totally depressing.
I love 'guy' movies which my hubby very happy--caper movies, mafia movies, zombie movies, sci-fi...you get the idea. Can't wait to see your super sekrit thing! :)
Is this sort of like if you come over, you know you are going to find either the Twilight Zone or Roswell on the TV at some point during the day? Because, uh, that might happen at my house...
Three words: Jason Frickin Statham. Most of his movies are somehow both *awesome!* and *terrible!* at the same time. I go into the movie with no expectation for plot or plausibility, and ALL expectation that he will take off his shirt and throat punch someone. I do so love him.
