The Frum

Does anyone else out there name their computers? Ever since I was in college, my computers have all been the Frumious Bandersnatch, or The Frum for short. I tried to rename the laptop, because I have a desktop downstairs that is The Frum, and we'd have serious computer identity issues if we gave them the same name. So I called the laptop the New Hotness.

Big mistake.

The New Hotness overheats. Constantly. Which seems only natural since he is the new HOTness, but I didn't expect him to take me so literally. The power cord actually fell apart under the pressure. "Why isn't this working?" I asked, and then it literally fell into two pieces. It reminds me of the night Slayer proposed to me, and we toasted each other with sparkly liquid, and I was so shaky excited that I put my glass down on the edge of the table. It fell over and shattered. So Slayer's washing the remaining glass in the sink, and he says, "Well, at least we still have ONE glass."

The bottom fell off. Plunk. Right in the sink. Not kidding. Not even exaggerating for comedic effect.

Anyway, I've learned my lesson. I have a new power cord and two computers named The Frumious Bandersnatch. And Slayer and I only toast each other with plastic cups.

Why do we temp fate? It is like saying, "This sure has been a good car," is the surest way to need a mechanic the next day.

You could do Big Frum and Lil' Frum!

Or Frum Jr.

Frum II.

Frum Part Deux.

The Return of Frum.

Okay, it's way too early for this giddiness.

In college my roommate and I named everything. Houseplants, our Christmas tree, the cat (well that one sort of makes sense). She named my new laptop BOB, for Battery Operated Boyfriend. It took me way too long to realize the innuendo, and by that time I didn't care.
Every laptop since has been Bob. BOB Jr and BOB the III

I've never actually named a laptop, but based upon your experiences perhaps I will avoid it. I have named cars and houseplants though.

I'm with Alissa. After your experience, I'll definitely skip naming my laptops...and all other appliances in my house. :)

i never name anything, I just call my instruments and my computer "beautiful" and "sweetheart"... lol I'm so not kidding. Of course, I also pet my cello some times, but anyway.

I like all of Kim's suggestions. :)

And DVD players do that to me All. The. Time. :/

I guess one way to avoid tempting fate with your computer is to name it Fruminous Bandersnatch. My last computer was iBook. My now computer is Toshiba. There is no tempting fate there.

My last laptop's name was "Fred" for "Frequently Retarded Electronic Device"--but I only named him that *after* I had a good idea as to his personality.

My *current* laptop's name is "Moxie" because she's got lots of it. ;)

That wine glass story is hilarious! This is why I never used to tell anyone break a leg in my Drama group days. With my luck, someone just might!

How frustrating. Glad you got it all worked out.

And no, I've never named my computer. I wonder if I should...

I hope what's it name stops overheating. And the proposal/glassbreaking story - do you think it was some sort of omen? ; )

Ha ha ha! I've never named a computer before. Great story, though. :-)

LOL. That really happened?

I haven't named this lappy yet (maybe I haven't bonded), but my last lappy was My Precious.

I tend to break my laptops, so I purposely don't name them. You know . . . I don't want to get too attached.

Nope, never named my computer. Cars...yes. Every car I've even known has had a name.
